Mother's Day

I am aware how late these are. But I don't really care!!!! Just wanted to share some photos from our fun evening together. For some reason, we did not get photos of the mothers...go figure, huh?! As warning, I am not liking most of the post processing I did with these photos. But I am feeling to lazy to go back and re-edit them so you will just have to deal with ! ;)

Memaw had the kids make us mothers a surprise gift! While we relaxed the kids painted a pot and planted a flower in it! This is Memaw and the kids getting ready to bring the surprise to the mommies! (isn't their deck and yard amazing?)

Papa Jim has fixed up this old fort so the kids can now play in it! I see lots of summer memories being made there in the future!

The dogs were "playing" but being very noisy! The kids were just a little concerned that Larry was hurting Charlie!!!

And just a shot of them running through the outdoor wonderland that is Memaw and Papa's yard. It is the most amazing little oasis in suburbia!!!

I am behind on editing photos - the story of my life! So stayed tuned for more later!

23 weeks!!!!

Just want to share what our little miracle girl is doing right now!!!!

(taken from BabyCenter.com)

How your baby's growing:

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

************************************************************************

This week your baby's length, from crown-to-rump, is approximately 8 inches! Your growing baby has finally reached one pound. Your baby is about the size of a small baby doll and looks very human. The baby's face and body look similar to that of a newborn at this time. Your uterus can be found about 1.5 inches above your navel. Your total weight gain should be approximately 15 pounds at this time.

You might notice some Braxton-Hicks contractions around this time. These contractions are not regular and they should not be painful. Braxton-Hicks contractions prepare your body for the upcoming labor and they will get stronger as your pregnancy progresses. You might be able to feel the contractions if you put your hand on your abdomen and your baby can probably feel the uterus gripping and massaging her. It will not harm your baby, so there is no need for concern.

Fat is still being deposited at a rapid rate, but your baby still looks red and wrinkled. Skin is being produced at a higher rate than the fat is, so the skin hangs loosely. Your baby looks red because the skin is losing its transparency and pigment is beginning to form. You should be feeling your baby moving quite a bit throughout the day as she will kick and punch the uterus walls. Babies also run their hands along the umbilical cord and touch their body parts while they are in the womb. Your baby now can suck her thumb for real, where she was just sticking it in her mouth. Your baby will continue to swallow amniotic fluid and recycle it as urine. The liquids and sugars that the baby retracts from the fluid is a supplement to the nutrients that the placenta delivers. You might be able to feel small `jumps` inside of you when your baby gets the hiccups from swallowing fluid. The pancreas is developing and it will responsible for insulin production, to help break down sugars.

Oily fish in your diet could help boost your baby's health. (Women who eat oily fish while pregnant have children with better visual development, a major study at Bristol University suggests.)

As the baby continues to grow, it has less space to move around in the uterus. Bones, muscles and organs are growing steadily.

HHT

Since I am heading to an HHT center this week, I thought I would make a quick post about it. I get asked often about HHT, what it is, how if affects me, how it affected Sam and such. So...here is a SUPER BRIEF overview!!!

What is HHT?

A person with HHT has a tendency to form blood vessels that lack the capillaries between an artery and vein. The spot where the vein and artery are directly connected tends to be fragile and can rupture. Small vessel abnormalities are called telangiectasias. Large blood vessel abnormalities are called arterio venous malformations (AVM).

95% of people with HHT have telangiectasias in the skin of the hands, face and mouth. In my family this has resulted in frequent and severe nose bleeds. This seems to be one of the most frequent side effects of HHT. Luckily for me, my nosebleeds are never severe.

30% of people with HHT have one or more AVMS in their lungs. Both my father and I have PAVMs (pulmonary). The capillaries between a vein and an artery in the lung have function in addition to slowing down the blood in an artery before it enters the vein. These capillaries also act as a filter for impurities like air bubbles, bacteria and clots. The are supposed to purify the blood before it circulates to the brain. PAVMs above a certain size pose an increased risk for stroke or brain abscess.

But PAVMs are easily treatable. My father has had his treated once (if I remember correctly!) And I have had mine treated three times.
To treat a PAVM, the irregular veins are plugged with metal coils. (called embolization) It is often an outpatient procedure.

HHT & Pregnancy

The majority of pregnancies are safe for a mother with HHT. Due to a 60% blood increase in pregnant women, fragile blood vessels (like AVMS) are more prone to burst. In most cases, if the
PAVMs are treated, the mother is safe.

So this week I will get a brain MRI to check for AVMs in the brain, a chest CT to check for new or enlarged AVMS and a lung function test. I am praying all goes well!!! If the doctors see something they need to fix, I will have my veins embolized again. So please pray for good results!!!

And I will leave you with a few shots of the flowers on our deck!!! I love Spring!!!!

Baby Birds!!!!

I love Spring in our yard!!! We are always finding fun little animals! Kennedy has always loved searching for bugs. She has several bug catching containers! Last week we found a tiny frog! But is soon hopped its way out of her bug catcher! We have even caught sight of a few lizards!

This weekend we found 2 teeny baby birds. They must have fallen from their nest...they barely had feathers and their eyes were still closed. I felt horrible for them. I was pretty sure their mother was not coming back for them. Kennedy wanted to call Papa Doug because, of course, he know everything about animals! She was hoping we could feed them and nurse them. But of course they were too tiny. Only their mama could take care of them. And unfortunately she never came back. But you can see their cute little photos here!!!

I am sure we will have more animal adventures to share over the next few months! So stay tuned!!!!
